thup thup thup roar thup
the bikers grind through the woods
cover the birds’ songs

thup thup thup roar thup

thup thup roar … sputter
bikes die to an unsought peace
choked by crisp clear air

into the redwoods
thup thup echoes drown slowly
quiet overcomes
