Hummmming Bug

The new in ….
to be a humbug

Christmas is…
presents
grumpy holiday gatherings
presents
credit card debt
grumpy family gatherings
long stays in airports waiting for planes

long drives
cold weather
snowbound… grumpy families.

Presents that aren’t needed
presents that aren’t wanted

credit card debt.

and in the spring, when the true humming bugs come out
and the sun shines
and the weather is warm
and there are no weather delays in airports
that is when I would move the present giving holiday
but then

I like to just give a real gift
when I think of the real gift
rather than have it shoved on me… as a need
as a requirement.
As a reciprocity.

—————-

There is a neighborhood here
bathed in the fame of brilliant holiday lights
To live there – one must sign an agreement to decorate

and they do
and cars come
and people walk through
to see there lights.

And every year it is the same
the lights are the same
and every year they look more worn
and tired
and you can tell the inspiration is gone

And I have heard the complaints
from folks that live there
about how the “have to” put up lights
and how they “have to” be different and creative
and it is all strained…
it is not inspired.

Better to drive randomly through town
and see the one set up by a family
on inspiration
on fun
on joy
on a creative whim….

—————–

And while I don’t think there’s much Christ in Christmas anymore…

I can’t really say that it’s much different from my usual experience with what happens with church, and religion and events. The event becomes the primary to draw people in… the original cause drifts away. It can be a fun party, this holiday – everyone wants to take part.

Randomizer

I saw this show on slot machines in Vegas.

A fellow claimed the software that drives the things isn’t really random. I got to thinking about it…

I suppose he must be right because the house always wins. The only way they can always win is if it’s rigged. If it’s rigged it can’t really be random.

It might be random who wins.

But it’s not just random. If it was… there’d be strings of winners in one day. There’d be days, weeks, months with no big winners.

Too much control to be truly random.

But then there’s the question – what is really random then anyway?

Well, not anymore… It’s all slipped away into some forgotten memory.

In dreams I am sometimes fluent.

I still know enough to mess with people…. I don’t know enough to read the paper, the truth.

I miss reading Makanin. Hmm, but taking an hour to read one page —- that just isn’t fun for very long.

Rocket ship. Shudder and up. Flames disperse. Air reduces and the feeling shifts from heavy to light. Spin. Spin.

Pull out the typewriter and write, monkey. You’ll come up with something in this vacuum.
