Finance

is not a word for poetry
unless
it refers to
the finances of love
the equity of desire
or maybe
the balance of your checkbook
in the bedroom
but never should a poem
talk about the debt
of money
or the mortgage of a house
souls, love, pain,
happiness, desire
are more suited than financial woes.
Identity crisis
October 28, 2008 at 3:56 pm | In Musings | Leave a CommentCan’t help but think of Rome lately
Rome and circles
loops
patterns
Rome fell a long time ago
they got too big for their britches
they fought wars a long ways off
they were a bit too decadent at home
sex parties and fancy aqueducts and all that
Yup… I wonder if they saw their neighbors driving SUVs and just had to get one…
So I don’t drive an SUV… just want to get that out there.
I try not to keep up with the Jones’
I probably still do a little bit… social pressure is beastly you know.
And Friday it’s Halloween and I wonder
what the presidential candidates will dress up as
what will our great nation dress up as
how long will we keep the costume on?
How long before some other country will catch on that we’re just dressed up?
Me… I’ll be raggedy
as I have been before.

Do not hold me tight
against my will. If you fear
I might break, I will

why
back to the dentist again
how is it that this happens
and what did people do before dentists
when a big chunk of their tooth just came off
I mean
golly
why
I imagine if it was bad enough they could just die
expire
pass on
I broke off a crown biting on a burger
(bacon blue cheese… mmmm, it was good)
left a gaping hole – big enough for a fry
argh.
and the cold and the hot… ooo ow!
then the drilling and the funky plastic molding
temporary suffocation devices…
oh… make me tired
my jaw is tired
then more funky plastic molding that goops into my beard
I’m still finding chunks of it a day later…
and they’re not done… this is just temporary
I get to go back and have them rip this one off
and then put the real one in
and tap tap tap
grind
how’s that feel? I don’t know I’m numb…
tap tap tap
grind
how’s that feel? I don’t know I’m numb…
I hope I’m done.
oh cravings…

When I had a paper route I delivered The Olympian every afternoon to about 50 customers. I rode my bike – lugged those papers the 3 miles of my route and all in all did an excellent job, if I do say so myself.
Papers were dry… I put them exactly where customers wanted them. I liked them, they liked me and… they gave me tips.
Tip money was used for snacks. I picked them up at The Corner Store. Okay – I have no idea what it’s really called, but that’s what we called it. My favorite item. Ho Ho’s. Oh, Ho Ho’s.. So delicately rolled… that softness, that cream filling. I’d eat a pack of two with no problem. If they were 2 for 1 – I’d eat both packs. When they came out with the three pack I was in heaven.
Recently – after years of forgetting their wonderfulness – I’ve tried them again. And they are still wonderful. Far better than Ding Dongs or any other treat. I find them a perfect combination of texture and flavor. Oh yes, I find my Ho Ho cravings are once again becoming more frequent.

And… what do I eat after a run? What is my favorite snack? Classic Fritos. Oh they are divine! and have you checked the ingredients? Only Corn, salt and corn oil. That’s it.
I like them smothered with an enchilada, under chili, over chili, plain… I think I’m turning into my father. He loved Fritos too.
